Confirel has just reached a new milestone in national recognition with the “Excellent Award” granted to its prahok production and processing unit by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), as part of the 2025 competition for the best prahok processor. This distinction, received on behalf of CEO Dr Hay Ly Eang, highlights the company’s ability to raise an emblematic product of Khmer cuisine to the level of the most demanding international standards, by combining raw materials from local fisheries, strong hygiene practices, strict food safety control and HACCP‑type certification developed with the support of the CAPFISH‑Capture program and UNIDO. By modernizing prahok while preserving its taste and soul, Confirel, through its Kirum brand, illustrates an approach in which agri‑food innovation becomes a lever for enhancing Cambodia’s culinary heritage, creating jobs for rural communities and preparing for exports to the most demanding markets, particularly the European Union.
